Rawr! The Jungle Print Dress is alive! Remember this beautiful fabric that I picked up for $1 at a local thrift store? Well, it's now been tamed into a steamy sheath dress.

I'd never used a Butterick pattern before, and the instructions were terrible for a fully-lined dress. They would have you do a ton of needless hand sewing around the shoulders and arms... What? Why? I pretty much ignored them and did my own thing-- I sewed the neckline and the armholes, pulled the dress right side out, sewed the back with zipper, and then sewed the side seams of the dress and lining in one go. Does that make sense? Basically, this allows you to sew the entire thing on the machine, AND leaves the side seams for last (which I like to adjust the fit).
Here's a shot of the inside. It is fully lined in black satin, and the keyhole slit in the front has teal lace around the edges!!! What a fun secret!

My mom spotted this jungle-print-beauty on Dillard's Online. So pretty! I guess I'm not the only one out there with a thing for elephants and jaguars in dress form.

That fabric was an awesome find - the dress looks super cute on you! (You have really pretty hair!!)
ReplyDeleteOh! Thanks so much for the compliment! It means a lot because I have been cutting my own hair, and I'm not always sure that it looks professionally done.
ReplyDeleteBethany- You have a great blog!
LOVE the dress and your sewing strategy!
