Brown Knit Dress

Excited by my success with knits (July 4th cover up and Alison swim suit), I decided to try to sew a "real" knit dress. I used McCall's 6112. Unfortunately, there was a small hiccup. I bought the amount of fabric recommended on the pattern ( 1 3/8 yd), but there wasn't nearly enough to cut the kimono-sleeve version out. I ended up cutting out the skirt-- with built in pockets! And then just made up the top of the dress with the remaining fabric.

Overall, I think it turned out quite well. And I spent a lot of time making the inside look nice. Using special stitches on my machine, and finishing the armholes and hem with hem lace. Pretty!

  1. Good job! I like the way the print matches up so well where the top and skirt meet. I would never have guessed that it is two pieces.

  2. Thanks! That wasn't on purpose, as I didn't have extra fabric to match the pattern--- but it did work out!
