Gray Splatter Ruffle Top

I haven't been doing a lot of sewing lately... my life has been a bit crazy. So this weekend, I was happy to finish a top I've been picking away at from Simplicity 2554. I bought this gray-splatter knit from fabric.com, and I love it! While the top was coming together, I wasn't sure if I would like this fabric with this pattern, but I do. I like how the style of the top makes it nice enough for work, but it could also be very casual and comfy for the weekend.

I think this top was a bit of a revelation to me. This, along with the other knit projects I've done lately, have made me realize that I am capable of making just about anything that's in ready-to-wear. (With the exception of pants! I'm scared to try pants!) The only trick is finding the right fabrics!

Overall, sewing this top was pretty easy and straight-forward. The only challenge was hemming the long edge of the ruffle. I wasn't in the mood to be fiddly with it, so I sewed it all in one go on the machine with no pinning or planning. It probably would have benefited from some hand-basting, but for me, I think it's fine.
