A few weekends ago, my sister and I went fabric shopping.............. IN NEW YORK CITY!!! Eeeeeeeeeee!!!!! (Can you tell how excited I am about this?!?!)Here is what I ended up with (keep reading for a full review of where we went).
From top left- Teal & Black stretchy material from Spandex House, White Flower Trim from Pacific Trimmings, Black Ruffled-edged Elastic from Pacific Trimmings, Black Purse Handles from Pacific Trimmings, Black Sequin Sheer stretchy material from Spandex House.
We started off searching for Mood:
It was a little hard to find because you don't enter from the street, but we found it! See the Mood signs on the 2nd floor windows? I was really excited because this is where they shop on Project Runway, but when we got inside, I was a bit like a deer in headlights. Three entire floors of floor-to-ceiling fabric. Whoa! It was almost too much to take in. I didn't end up buying anything there, and I think it would have helped to have a specific project in mind. Our next stop was Spandex House:
The name "Spandex House" sounds a bit ridiculous, but I loved this store! So many fun, colorful stretchy fabrics! I felt like we were in the costume department for Cirque du Soleil. I ended up buying 2 fabrics here. The next stop was Pacific Trimmings:
Fun, fun, fun! Aisles and aisles of ribbons, belt buckles, zippers, and more. I think I was hitting my fabric shopping mojo here! I found a lot of nice extras that aren't available where I live. Then, the unthinkable happened--a celebrity sighting of a fashion celebrity...
ANTHONY WILLIAMS from PROJECT RUNWAY! We were crossing the street on the same cross-walk, but walking in different directions. I literally did a double-take!And another celebrity sighting...
MARK TWAIN! Ha ha ha! Mark Twain is my hubby's favorite author, so since he couldn't come, I drew a little Mark Twain, and we took photos of him all around NYC. hee hee.Ah, what fun! Fabric shopping is exhausting, but it makes me happy!
p.s. Notice I wore my Brown Knit Dress... had to wear a Made-by-Trisha creation to go fabric shopping in!
Looks like you got an amazing haul. Can't wait to see what you make with it. I'm so jealous that you have such great fabric/notions stores in the US.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic shopping trip! Glad you got to go!
