Rawr! My recent sewing has been in line with two special sewalongs going on. First, I pledged to be a part of Cation's Stashbusting Sewalong. January's theme is Itty Bits, and that's what I started thinking about. Second, as it turns out, the fabric remnant that I pulled out to work with is cheetah print, so it also works out for Jungle January, led by Pretty Grievances. So let me introduce you to my crazy cheetah jammie set.
Let's start with the fabric. When I saw this metallic green cheetah print in the remnant bin at JoAnn's a while back, did I run away screaming? Did I laugh at the absurdity of this fabric? NO! I knew I had to take it home with me! There was only a mere half yard--what was I going to do with it? I decided it would be perfect as some crazy pajama shorts paired with a plain top. But when January's Stashbusting theme of Itty Bits came along, I decided to use up every last bit of this fabric.

That means, I made the bloomer shorts, the tank top, and the undies out of 1/2 yard! All that's left are two postcard-sized pieces. The crazy cheetah print is not the only itty bit used. The black fabric was about 1/2 yard leftover from an un-blogged project. And the neon lime green lace is leftover from my Beetlejuice tank.
I made this jammie set up in a blaze of creative fury! The top was made without a pattern! I started putting together crazy fabric choices---metallic cheetah with lime green lace---sure! It seriously all came together in a blur! (Alcohol may have been involved.)
I did include some fun details. Check out the on-the-fly piecing of the different fabrics. And the pocket is cheetah fabric with a lace overlay--love that detail.
While I was sewing, I kept thinking, "Trisha, this is awesome! You are making some non-traditional choices that are really working out!" Now that the adrenaline has stopped pumping, and I've had a good night's rest, I'm not so confident. It reminds me of an outfit that a crazy old lady would wear with a matching cheetah hat.... Or something a mustached man in the 80s would wear to the beach... But you know what, I wanted to make some sassy jammies, and sassy these are---so mission accomplished.

I love this set!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's crazy that you wouldn't initially think those pieces of fabric would look good together, but it's totally perfect! I especially love how it's all from remnants. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Glad to know that I'm not the only one who not-so-secretly likes crazy print combos!
DeleteI think your fabric choices work together! Doesn't it feel great to use up those bits and pieces!
ReplyDeleteThis is just brilliant! Your fabric matching is totally inspired, and way to use up so many different fabrics to fit TWO challenges!
