I've decided to sew some more professional clothing that I can wear to work and really look sharp. This dress is the second of two that I made from the Coffee Date Dress pattern on Burdastyle. (Haven't blogged the first dress yet.) I don't do caffeine, so instead of calling this a "coffee date" dress, I'm naming it the "Earl Grey" dress! I originally made this pattern a looooong time ago in 2009:
Coffee Date Dress, I modified the bodice pattern to make the armholes larger and I added about an inch of length. Also, instead of darts, I simply made bodice gathers for this version and left off the ruffle. The top is poly chiffon lined with cotton voile, and the bottom is a gray rayon/poly/spandex. All fabrics are from fabric.com.
|Can you spot the "design element?"|
I already have another version of this dress made, and there may be more to come! It really is a perfect work dress. It looks polished in the summer, and it will work great in the winter with a blazer over the top.
